WHAT'S GOING ON IN BARILOCHE?

THE XXVI EDITION OF THE MIL MILLAS SPORT

Hello blog friends and turists of Bariloche!

As you may have notice, there have been quite lots of beautiful old cars circulating around some parts of the city. It's not that you have traveled back in time so don't worry, is just one of the most spectacular cultural race event that takes place in Bariloche every November.

Here goes a bit of history of the Mil Millas race and of course, some pictures for you to enjoy!

In 1986 a group of enthusiasts travelled to Brescia to take part in the Mille Miglia. There came up the idea of having an event for Sports-cars in Argentina with similar characteristics to the one in Italy. It took some years to materialize, and finally in 1989 the Club de Automóviles Sport organized the first 1000 Millas Sport de la República Argentina.

In 1996 the event jumped to a higher level becoming an International attraction thanks to the contract signed by Lorenzo Barra with the organizers of the Mille Miglia in Italy.

New roads in the Patagonia were visited by collectors from all over the World. From Europe came cars from different museums such as the BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Alfa Romeo and very important personalities like Sir. Stirling Moss, Carlos Reutemann, Clay Regazzoni, Jacques Laffite, René Arnoux, Giuliano Cané and Luciano Viaro amongst others. Nowadays, the 1000 Millas Sport is included in the International FIVA calendar of events, and has became the best event in South America.

Only 150 classic and Sports-cars, built until 1981 with FIVA passport divided in different classes according to the built date, will take part in this 1600 km drive divided in three stages.

Patagonia has the perfect scenery to enjoy the cars in all paved roads surrounded by lakes, valleys and mountains, through the Provinces of Río Negro, Neuquén, Chubut and the neighbour country of Chile, with all stages starting and ending at the Llao Llao Hotel in San Carlos de Bariloche.

The 1000 Millas Sport, as well as La Festa Mille Miglia in Japan and the California Mille in the USA is an homage to "la corsa piu bella del mondo", the Mille Miglia, to celebrate the spirit of the legend. Not only precision stages but unique views, history, culture, tradition, local food and hospitality.

To Juan Manuel Fangio, the Mille Miglia, was the race he could never win, and had confessed that he had given one of the Formula 1 championships for a victory in the mytical italian road race. This year is the celebration for the 100th. Anniversary of his birth, so arriving in first place is an additional stimulus to take part in the event.

A competition, a museum on wheels, where the merit, is only yours.

CANOPY AT MT. LOPEZ

Fly like a bird!

Known as the ecological adventure offer in Bariloche, the Canopy surges thanks to the need of studying rain forest vegetation areas without affecting their natural environment evolution.

This is the reason why this tour gives you the chance to explore Bariloche's surrounding forests in a different way from other tours, allowing you to feel the magical sensation of flying like a bird inbetween trees and through the forest.

Thanks to the use of harnesses and pulleys that permit you to slide from one platform to the other, from tree to tree, you will contemplate some stunning landscapes unable to see from the ground!

The entire circuit has a total lenght of about 1500 mts long, divided between 10 platforms that are strategically located in the top of the tallest trees.

In order to get to the firts platform, after having an explanation about security and descending instructions, you will be transported up the Mt. lopez (4 kms trail) by a Land Rover Defender, and after a brief hike, you will arrive to the starting point of the adventure!

This activity does not require any previous experience at all. The constant full time supervision given by the instructors added with the special equipment used, make the Canopy an 100% safe and fun excursion.

Also, the tour is not cancelled by rain nor snow, it's available all year long and ideal for all ages!

Here goes a video that sums up all I just told you about...

Operability: all year long

Outings: everyday

Pick up time: 9.00am to 1.00pm or 1.00pm to 5.00 pm

Important: take confortable clothing and footwear.

MANSO RIVER RAFTING

Refreshing fun!

The perfect combination between adrenaline and fun is what you will experiement while doing white water rafting at one of the most important rivers in the Nahuel Huapi National Park.

Known as Manso River (Gentel / Meek river), it is one of the most chosen sites for fly fishing and practicing water sports such as rafting and kayaking.

Now making honor to its name, some of it's many turns generate unbelievable paradise beaches with such clam waters that even seem not to be moving at all. These are some of the parts where you will be able to relax and even jump into the water if you dare!

However, you must not be taken in by appearances as the rapids may suddenly apear, changing everything from calm, relaxing and peaceful feelings to screams, laughters and lots of fun while you float through narrow cañons where current gets faster and turbulent.

Now, speaking of the service of this adventure tour, you may choose between two options depending on your level of adrenaline tolerance and your age or people you are travelling with (group composition), as there are two different level type raftings.

If you are travelling with your family (with kids mainly) I suggest you doing level 2 type, recomended for those little ones from 5 years on.

Level 2 program:

(Manso Inferior)

You will get picked up from your hotel at 10.00 am to set off from Bariloche down South, taking road 40 and skirtting lakes Gutierrez,  Mascardi and Gullelmo. Almost half way to El Bolson, you will leave the comfort of this paved road, taking a gravel road to the magical lake Steffen, hidden between mountains and forest.

Once we are finally there, aproximatelly at 12.00 pm, while the guides start setting up all the equipment, you will start dressing up with the wetsuit provided.  After this and listening to all the saftey instructions given by the head-guide, you will be ready to hop on the raft and start the fun down the river.

Sorrounded by mountains and exuberant native forest vegetation, you will appreciate  some of the most represnative trees of the Andean Forest flora, such as: coihue, ciprés, arrayán, maitén, radal, caña colihue, chilco, etc. You may also observe birds such as: martín pescador, bandurria, avutarda and tero. The Manso's crystal waters even permit to see some trouts!

After navigating for nearly an hour and a half, you will stop at a lovely sandy beach to enjoy the view while the guides prepare the lunch service. A table displayed and set with different types of cold cuts, dressings, breads, vegetables, fruits, juice and something sweet will allow you to serve yourself and prepare a deliciuos meal.

After the lunch break, at 3.00 pm, you will get back to the raft to navigate through some of the most exciting rapids of the Manso Inferior, know as Uvasal, Banda Militar, Diente de Hipopotamo, montaña Rusa y Roca Magnitica. All level 2 type.

Once we get to our final stop to descend from the raft, after changing your clothes and having something to drink, the van will be waitting for you to beggin the journey back, arriving to Bariloche at aprox. 7.00 pm.

Includes: Trasportation from Hotel, wetsuit and security equipment, lunch and beverage.

What to bring: Bring comfortable footwear and clothing. Towel. Sunscreen. Waterproof jacket – windbreaker. Also a change of clothes and an extra pair of shoes.

Outings: Daily in summer. During spring must ask before.

Time with transfer pick up: 10.00am to 07.00pm

Level 4 program:

(To the limit with Chile)

After picking everyone up at 9.00 am, you will travel down south through road 40 for more than an hour to the south limit of Nahuel Huapi National Park. Taking a gravel road from here on, you will skirt the Manso river till you get to the Estancia John.

Once you enjoy a hot drink at the river coast, you will put on your wetsuit and after listening to all the saftey instructions given by the head-guide, you will be ready to descend through the last part of Manso River before it crosses to Chilenean territory.

During the first part of the navigation, the tranquility of the river waters allow us to observe waterfalls descending from the highlands of the sorrounding mountains and some of the most incredible white sandy beaches. You may jump to the water if you wish!

Further on, the river suddenly begins to turn more impetuous. This is when the real fun starts! Putting yourselfs up to some difficult water obstacles, the team work will be the only way to keep you all in the raft, avoiding you from falling into the water.  However, falling into the water is a must do experience!

Narrow canyons and fast rapids combined with dense rainforest vegetation will leave you breathless.

Once you get to the limit with Chile, the navigation will finalize. You will descend from the raft to chill out and relax a bit. A small hike here is requiered to transport the equipment as a group to the place where the van will be waiting for you to start the way back to the Estancia John.

At the Estancia, you will be able to enjoy some delicious home made dishes such as asado, pastas, sandwiches or vegeterian options. THE FOOD IS NOT INCLUDED IN TOUR PRICE!
You may also take your lunch box.

After enjoying a lovely lunch souround by forest and mountains at the Estancia, you will then start the journey back to Bariloche, arriving at 7.00 pm aprox.

Includes: Trasportation from Hotel, wetsuit and security equipment, lunch and beverage.

What to bring: Bring comfortable footwear and clothing, towel, sunscreen, waterproof jacket – windbreaker. Also a change of clothes and an extra pair of shoes. Passport or ID is necessary (as you will be at a border zone).
